Eliel Santos' passion for fishing in the city's sidewalk grates was rather underestimated. Seeing him with a fishing rod on sidewalks, locals laughed at his unusual hobby. But the ridicule soon faded when it became known that Santos makes thousands of dollars with his fishing rod.
The man has chosen the most unusual place for his activity - grates, which can be found on many New York sidewalks. The man came up with the idea of retrieving fallen objects several years ago, when he happened to see a man drop his keys down a grate.
Santos came to the man's help and put liquid glue on a rock to fish out the keys. When the stranger gave Santos $50 for his help, Eliel realized his calling and decided to become a professional fisherman.
"I know people laugh when they see me with a fishing rod, but they don't know what a lucrative job I do," Santos says.
Over the past couple of years, Santos has become a true expert at his craft. He uses a magnet, cord, liquid glue, and a set of hooks to pull valuable items worth hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars out of storm drains every day.
On his luckiest day, he fished out a diamond bracelet, which he sold for $2,000.
Now passersby do not laugh at Santos and respect his job. His unusual way of making money arouses interest and draws admiration, because not everyone can bravely follow his dream and be successful in unusual areas.
