The twin sisters Corie Graddick and Katie Ann Pressley, 26, from North Carolina are not fond of modern clothes and prefer vintage outfits because of quality tailoring and fabric.

The sisters have grown up in a family where modesty was highly valued. As their family wasn't very well-off, the girls would often wear second-hand clothes.

"Mom would search the thrift stores as a more affordable way to clothe us," Corie recalls.

As a result, the girls couldn't afford to follow trends and since childhood they've been used to vintage clothes. The sisters have clothes from 50 to 60 years ago that still look like new, because their quality is just great.

"The modern clothes are just bags with holes for the head and arms," Corie says. According to the twins, the modern garments are of low quality and similar in style.

The sisters are musicians – Katie plays the violin and Corie plays the guitar. For gigs they wear 60's and 70's dresses and blouses.

The women used to sing in the church choir, Corie studied violin for two years, but then she decided to play guitar. Shortly thereafter, Katie started playing the violin.

"We do folk, country music," Corey says, "some of our own compositions, fiddle tunes and lyrical songs."

In addition to clothes, the sisters like other vintage items.

Katie works as a jewelry artist and lives with her parents. She has a 1986 Square Body truck and her violin was made in the 1800s.

Corie, who lives with her husband in Murphy, has a 1954 Gibson guitar. She also has many vintage kitchen utensils. The family exclusively uses cast-iron pans that are up to a hundred years old.

However, the twins point out that people should wear outfits in which they are comfortable.

"We do love to wear old clothes, but it’s what makes us feel the best, we don't do it to be cool."

That doesn't mean the girls don't have modern outfits. However, they try to find old items online or at thrift stores.

As Corie says, "Although we wear old-fashioned clothes, I wouldn't say we draw a lot of attention to ourselves with that. Sometimes people give compliments on our blouse or dress."

In the era of fast fashion, the twins appreciate the more modest clothing styles of the past generations.
