Looking back at the events of 2022, you think that an underground bunker is not a crazy idea. And, apparently, this idea is becoming more and more popular.

Last year, the media started talking about the construction of a 15-story underground shelter on the site of a former missile silo in Kansas, and this news sparked a surge of irony and jokes. Today, despite the enormous cost of housing (which is millions of dollars per condo), all the 75 apartments in the company's future Survival Condo project have already been sold out. Here's a sneak peek at the design of the bunker that is supposedly capable of saving residents from all kinds of natural disasters including nuclear war.

In 2008, in the wake of the popularity of such topics as the post-apocalypse and the coming of judgment day, a newly minted startup bought a former missile silo in Kansas. According to its founders, it cost them $300,000.

At the time, the startup's founder, Larry Hall, planned to build an underground bunker that can shelter its residents for 1-2 years. Later, the entrepreneurs decided to increase the autonomy of the facility up to 5 years, thereby raising the cost of housing.

It cost the startup $20 million and took years of work to implement the idea. During this time, 15 floors of residential area with 7-9 ft thick walls, three independent power sources, three water sources with filtration systems, a huge amount of food supplies, and other useful things for survival appeared on the site of the former mine. At the same time, buyers were offered various housing options – from a 270 sq ft apartment ($1.5 million) to 1000 sq ft penthouses ($4.5 million).

According to information on the project's website, in addition to condos, the bunker features a cinema, several gyms and swimming pools, lounge areas, and other entertainment locations that will help the bunker residents not to get bored so quickly. The startup also features co-working for all residents.

As of today, all housing options in the first Survival Condo bunker have already been sold out, and the project has not been completed yet. Meanwhile, the founders of the startup note that the "survival market" is growing rapidly, and in the near future people will see a much larger number of similar bunkers.
